Role reversal

Posted in work on June 9th, 2010 by Elizabeth – Comments Off

So it is Brendan’s turn to travel for work. He will be heading to the UK in the end of August through the beginning of September. And it could be longer since he is flying Icelandair via Reykjavik.

Eli and I will have to fend for ourselves.

So close…

I am working on a scientific meeting for preeclampsia and was emailing with one of the doctors that delivered the Gosselin sextuplets. I was hoping he would be able to attend the meeting so I could ask him if Kate and Jon were dingbats even back then. Teresa said I should have casually mentioned “Dancing with the stars” and then drop Kate’s name. But alas it is not meant to be.

Resting comfortably

I am back from the hospital and Brendan took today off as well to tend to me. I am a bit sore and there is more pain then the last time. I think my nerves have regenerated a bit more so there is more to feel if that makes any sense.

While watching day time tv I saw a commercial for Huggies Jeans. Diapers that look like jeans. It is so bizarre and stupid. I think the tagline is something like “The only way to be stylish while pooping in your pants”. Seriously? Crazy.

More Pictures of the House

Because some of you have been asking, here is a bunch of pictures we took when we went over to the house to take measurements.

Here is the kitchen.  Brendan really likes the bar table and we thought it might be IKEA.  So today when we were there, Brendan looked under the table and pulled off the sticker.  It is IKEA and it is UTBY.  I do not believe they sell it in white anymore.  Brendan will have to figure it out.

They had closets custom done and I love them.

Grandma Doyle

Posted in Family on June 6th, 2010 by Elizabeth – 2 Comments

While in Iceland, we got word that my grandmother was not doing well. Being the considerate lady that she was, she pushed through the days while we were away on vacation. However, last Friday she finally decided she was done. She was 93 and lived a long, full life.

She will be missed.

Published!

At work I have had my first abstract accepted and poster presentation for the 13th Biennial European Conference of the Society for Medical Decision Making.

I am excited because I currently have 2 more abstracts submitted to national conferences (European Society of Intensive Care Medicine and European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis) and another in the works for (Society of Critical Care Medicine).

Also I am currently a listed author on two manuscripts (one is a potential first author which most of you may not understand except Sarah and Alett) that are being written and then we will have to submit for acceptance to a few medical journals.

So it has been exciting having my work published in the medical community.

More surgery…

Monday I am having what I hope is my last surgery.  It is almost a year later and I kind of want to be done with it.  On the anniversary of the diagnosis Brendan and I will heading downtown and having a nice meal with some good wine.

Iceland

Posted in vacation on June 5th, 2010 by Elizabeth – Comments Off

So Brendan and I went to Iceland.  We planned the trip prior to the volcano erupting and ruining travel for everyone.   We were talking about planning a vacation and one day I was stuck behind a bus in traffic and the ad was for Iceland.  Hence the idea of going to Iceland.  The tourist board seems to advertise a lot in Boston and I think it is because it is one of the few cities with direct flights.

The flight is about 5 hours and unlike European flights, they have the same movies no matter direction you are going.

Here is what Iceland looks like when driving from the airport.

We went on a bus tour to a bunch of places including:
Gullfoss

On the way out to Thingvellir, our bus took a detour to look at some horses and got stuck.

Pushing didn’t help.

But then another tour bus and a stranger’s rope came to our rescue.

The Blue Lagoon is a spa and worth a visit. We relaxed in geothermal water and it was amazing. I wish I could go there every day. Even Brendan liked it.

This is the view from the hotel at 9:30 at night. The sun didn’t set until around midnight and I have no idea when it came back up.

We went on a bike tour of Reykjavik and they drop you off at the hot dog stand. This is the best place to eat in the city and there is always a line.
