Open the door

Posted in Uncategorized on August 21st, 2009 by Brendan – 1 Comment

I very rarely post here, in fact I think I’ve only posted once before.  But Liz may not be able to post much in the coming days/weeks so I wanted to get in the habit.

This video is for Liz but hopefully everyone will enjoy it.  We saw this movie and it inspired us so much that we made this our wedding song:

Of course the original is by Peter Townsend.  The version we used for the wedding was by Sondre Lerche and was from the soundtrack to Dan In Real Life (see clip above).

As an aside – I could not find this video using Google.  But I was able to find it with Bing.  That’s the first time that has ever happened to me.

So on Monday…

So the big day is Monday and I just want to say that we appreciate all of the support during the last few weeks (and that to come). We (rather Brendan) will try to let everyone know how the surgery went but we a) have a lot going on and b) have a lot of people to keep in the loop. So if you don’t hear from us personally – don’t take it personally. Things will slip from our minds in the next few weeks. This blog will be updated as often as we can so it will be a good place to check before calling up or stopping by the hospital. It may seem impersonal but it is highly practical.

Even more cuteness

More cuteness

This is where Eli went to hide when he was scolded. We need to be better at reprimanding and not provide such soft places for him to lay his head.

Surgery time moved…

Posted in health on August 19th, 2009 by Elizabeth – 3 Comments

As of my last appointment (Monday with Brad/Doogie Howser) my surgery time was moved from 9:30 am to 8:30 am. I have to call this Friday to confirm. I think the earlier the better and I hope everyone has their morning cup of coffee before coming into that OR. Maybe I should bring a box o’ joe for them? How can I sterilize that?

Are you Doogie Howser or Brad?

So I had a meeting with an anesthesiologist (who may or may not be my anesthesiologist for the surgery). And I think I could be his mom. And I think he wants to be a preppy hipster in the off hours.

Things to consider:
1) Don’t call yourself Andy. You are a doctor. Go by Andrew.
2) Don’t wear every thing J Crew at a time – argyle socks, tie, khakis, button down and then also wear saddle shoes.
3) Don’t chew gum. (I am pretty sure he was chewing gum).
4) Don’t be my friend, be my doctor. I know we probably like the same music, hang out at similar bars, and are from the same generation but come on.
5) Also why are you dropping the g-bomb in subtle ways? I am not hitting on you. I am your patient. And you are not my type. And I am married.

If you have ever watched “The Rachel Zoe Project” then picture a taller, straight Brad.  I would not have been suprised if he told me my shirt was “bananas”.

Freezes beautifully

Posted in Food on August 17th, 2009 by Elizabeth – 4 Comments

The freezing of meals always reminds me of “Steel Magnolias.” So this week and weekend we may be doing some cooking. And we are also going out to dinner. And I am getting a massage, hair cut, mani/pedi (oh wait no I am not). It is a busy weekend.  If we do get around to cooking and then freezing food what recipes “freeze beautifully?”

Thwarted

My mani/pedi is a no go as I have to remove all nail polish prior to the surgery. As if having breast cancer was bad enough but now they are ruining my pampering day! I guess I will just find something else to do.

A milestone in Our Household

So this may be too much for some of you but Eli went to the bathroom on the leash and outside of our backyard. The bad news is I think he had diarrhea but let’s focus on the positive. He got plenty of praise afterward so hopefully it will continue especially since he will be staying with Alett, Hugh, Toffee, Riley and Kiwi next week (Monday and Tuesday).

Also, tonight he took his aligator and walked upstairs as if to say “I got my gator and ready for bed!”  He is too adorable for me.

Floodgates

Posted in health on August 16th, 2009 by Elizabeth – 2 Comments

It seems that at John’s wedding, the vino got the better of me and the floodgates have opened (sorry Mary Ann and Witz). If you talk to me, I will end up crying. Just so you know. The surgery and the aftermath is more real now that it is about a week away.

And while I worry about myself during all of this, I worry about Brendan more. To make matters worse, not only are the Mets playing poorly but David Wright now may be out the season. Also, BC football doesn’t seem to be poised to help in this matter either. Maybe the Giants will be a happy distraction for him. Maybe. But without any one to give the ball to I am not holding my breath on that one.
