I am famous!

Posted in Mets on July 2nd, 2009 by Elizabeth – 1 Comment

I have always wanted to be on the jumbotron at a game. But something better has happened. I was on TV. So was Kim. But this is my blog so let’s focus on me.

We were walking back to our seats and were a bit lost and walked infront of camera.  A few times.  We were confused.  Well Chris’ friend called him to say he saw us on TV.  Then Brendan’s friend Matt was emailing and asked if were at the game because he thought he saw me on TV.  THIS IS BETTER THAN THE JUMBOTRON!

Teamwork

Posted in Blog Meta, Mets on June 2nd, 2009 by Brendan – Comments Off

So after talking to a friend, and blog reader, a few weeks back I realized that not everyone will “get” the reference in the blog’s tag line: We’ve got the teamwork to make the dreamwork…

This blog is basically about Liz and I and our adventures as a young a married couple.  The tag line of course refers to our teamwork to make the proverbial dream work.  But there’s more to that quote…

Back in the 1980′s somebody had an idea.  People love athletes.  People love pop music.  And so the Superbowl Shuffle was born.  The New York Mets, who are of course near and dear to my heart, thought this terrible terrible idea…was brilliant!  The Mets have a long and storied musical tradition tracing all the way back to their origins and the fantastic Meet the Mets song.  And while the 1986 Let’s Go Mets video is not their worst musical adventure [see Who Let the Met's Out], it’s still pretty bad.

I’m not entirely sure what’s most ridiculous:  Joe Piscipo?  Gary Carter’s white sports jacket – does he think it’s an episode of the Love Boat?  And don’t forget Kevin Mitchell in the full blue jumpsuit right next to him.  How about all the mustaches?  Were there really that many mustaches in 1986??

In any case, we borrowed the one decent part of the whole disaster for the blog.  It seemed to fit.

“Lets Go Mets Go…We’ve got the team work, to make the dream work.  Let’s Go!”

I hope you enjoyed my first real blog entry.

Cheers.

Memories of Shea

As a surprise last fall I purchased seats from Shea Stadium for Brendan (no reason, I am just nice like that).  I have been amassing sports memorabilia over the years for him.  One Christmas I bought him a bunch of things, then the brick, and now the seats.  So below I show you what 2 Shea Stadium seats look like in your hallway.

Because we have no place to put them and I need them to store nicely, I won’t let him open them.  And yes, that is laundry in the basket (folded but waiting to get put away, stop judging).

The Official Debut of Citifield

Posted in Mets on May 31st, 2009 by Elizabeth – Comments Off

So the weekend after Switzerland we were in New York for Haley’s first birthday, Easter, and Mets Opening Day at the brand new Citifield.

Brendan and I visited both families on Saturday and Sunday. Then went to the ballpark on Monday. Opening Day was a night this year which was annoying but oh well.

Here it is.

For Brendan’s birthday last year (I think) I bought Brendan a brick to be placed in front of the stadium in the “Fan Walk”. It is in Section 6 on the left side. He found it right away and proceded to act like Charlie did when he won the golden ticket. Upon seeing the picture below, Brendan’s favorite niece Kristen asked, “Who is this sad, pathetic man laying on the ground?” That would be my husband. Yay me!
