Tough days…

Posted in dog, life on February 26th, 2010 by Elizabeth – 2 Comments

Eli has had some GI issues which cause Brendan to get up several times a night and us to worry about coming home to an “accident”. There have been a few of the latter.

Also, we had a rock hit the car while I was going to work one morning causing a nice 10 inch crack. We visited the tax person and that was not very pleasant and was a bit shocking.

Hopefully this weekend will be an improvement of things.

Dog Park

Posted in Boston-area, dog on February 15th, 2010 by Elizabeth – Comments Off

On Saturday, we ventured out in Somerville to a dog park. Eli goes to day care and plays with other dogs so we thought he would like the exercise.

As we walked down Putnam, you can hear the dogs and Eli was getting all excited. So we go in and Eli starts to sniff around and get familiar. He was very shy at first. He hung out near the fence, watching the others play. (There were a few big dogs we think intimidated Eli.) Eli would sniff a dog if said dog was off on his own near a fence. Then every once in awhile Eli would walk out to the middle of the field. You could tell he wanted to play but was just a bit shy. Eventually after about 10 minutes (during which time he hammed it up to other owners for pets) he got into the mix and started to play. And man, can the dog run. We never realized how fast he could go. So we let him run to his heart’s content with the other dogs for awhile.

The best other dog was “Dexter”. Every few minutes you would hear someone yell “Dexter!” and turn to find the dog humping yet another small dog. It was pretty funny – not just for the obvious but because Dexter was dressed in a monogrammed coat and his owners were mortified.

Tsk tsk tsk

So while I was enthralled with “Breaking Dawn” (the last book of the Twilight series) on Sunday morning, Eli was roaming the house. After it being quiet too long, I called Eli and he came downstairs. I was proud that he came so quickly (we have been working on coming when called).

Later that day I went upstairs and found out why it was so quiet. Our lovely dog jumped up on the bed (no no number 1) and chewed up my glasses beyond repair (no no number 2).

Here is what used to be my glasses.

Holy Cannoli

Posted in dog on February 1st, 2010 by Elizabeth – Comments Off

Friends Keith and Jen went to North Conway and stopped by an animal bakery. And they bought Eli a treat – a cannoli to be exact. I guess humans could eat it but I would rather stick to Italian.

Here it is. I love the decoration and detail.

Then Eli attacked and the cannoli had no chance.

Because it has been awhile.  Here is an old video and some new pictures.

Eli running around with Pig.

This is what you get when you are trying to eat on the couch and won’t let Eli near you.

Eli and Pig

So we have blogged a bit about how Eli loves his Pig and really owes Alett (and Toffee and Riley) a big thank you for giving it to him.  And lately he has been back on the Pig bandwagon as he has been playing with him and carrying him.  Even just the other morning, Brendan though Eli was coming to wake him up but instead, Eli went upstairs got Pig and ran downstairs.

Here is video proof of his excitement over Pig when compared to his rope bone.

Then this is Eli taking Pig to bed after that little game.

And then some grainy video of Eli going up the stairs.

Speaking of hockey, we have just a few days to get some hand warmers for Hockey East at Fenway. So excited!

More snow…

Well it has been snowing for at least two days now.

For most of it, we sat on the couch.  As seen here.

But we did let Eli out in the snow as seen here.

Then he started to sniff out something which led to some yoga-inspired moves like this.

New Year, New Job

Posted in dog, work on December 31st, 2009 by Elizabeth – 5 Comments

Not only is it a new year but it is a new era for Brendan. He begins his new job at Litmus in Cambridge.   We here in Medford are very excited.

While he started to look for a new job earlier this new year, he scrapped it for awhile (along with house hunting) since some other things (namely me) took priority.  However, in October he got the fateful call to come in for an interview. Interestingly, he got the call while we were tending to Eli who had JUST jumped out of a window. He had an interview and a week later, B had an offer. Not only can he dress casual everyday, he no longer has to drive to work – both of which are ideal for him.  And he will have a solid state hard drive – apparently that is really cool in the geek world.

The company is headquartered in Leeds, UK so we spoke to our resident UK employment expert Sarah about how to handle the negotiation process.  Lucky for us she was bored out of her mind in a hotel room with a newborn and jumped at the chance to play career helper.  The cool thing is that Brendan will be going to Leeds at least once a year and I hope to tag along much like he did in Switzerland.  But we will see.

However, I will miss our commuting together.  Driving to and from work afforded us the chance to talk about our day, things that needed to get done, random news stories, and other mundane things.  Though now I will be able to leave work when I want and not have to wait for B and get home sooner to my husband and pup.  So maybe it will all work out.

Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No window jumping hysterics this time

Although, we need to replace the bottom of Eli’s crate since he broke it while he was left alone (we went to Jersey to visit with the whole C. clan and Eli had to stay at home for about 7 hours).  But I would take a broken tray to jumping out the window any day.  Overall Eli was great – he went to the bathroom on the leash like a champ.  He found his spot down on Shore Road and became quite predictable.  He did growl and bark a lot more but he was around more people this time. Eli was not into the wrapping paper and it may be because he was anxious in a new place. Prior to us leaving, Eli was all over the wrapping of gifts so it was odd.

He did great again with Grandma but was a bit terrorized by the kids.  Even grandma said, “Shhh – you are scaring the dog.”  And while the kids were scaring the dog, Grandma could have just said “Shhh” as she has enough political capital to get people to quiet down without adding the dog in there.  She is tough like that.

Eli got to sleep in bed with us as a treat and did not try to continue the trend at home.

When we got home, we gave Eli his stocking.  Here he is checking it out.
