Open Houses

Brendan and I have begun to look at some houses in the area. It is an interesting market to say the least. We went to one house that is a BIG Victorian. It was waaay too much house for us and I think that either there was a triple homicide in there or some human trafficking.

It was weirdly configured. The house was three stories and each floor had its own kitchen (or did at one point). However, you couldn’t make it into a multi-family house because of the way the entry way and stairwell is set up. We opted not to go down to the basement because we were scared.

There were several rooms being used as bedrooms and there was just a mattress on the floor and old computers/monitors/computer parts strewn on the floor. Lots of books including multiple copies of many titles. If the unibomber lived in Somerville, he might have lived here. We felt badly for the real estate agent because that is going to be difficult to unload.

Tough days…

Eli has had some GI issues which cause Brendan to get up several times a night and us to worry about coming home to an “accident”. There have been a few of the latter.

Also, we had a rock hit the car while I was going to work one morning causing a nice 10 inch crack. We visited the tax person and that was not very pleasant and was a bit shocking.

Hopefully this weekend will be an improvement of things.

Name this place!

Deutschland?

I may be heading to Frankfurt, Germany in the near future. And by Frankfurt, I mean the airport. I am working on a conference for physicians at the Frankfort Sheraton which is adjacent to the airport. I would fly in, work and fly out and all I will see is the airport. Oh and this is over Brendan’s birthday. Last year I had to be in Switzerland for his birthday and this year I will be in Frankfurt. And before the “poor Brendan” comments start, he gets good gifts and is well fed. He will be fine.

Dog Park

Posted in Boston-area, dog on February 15th, 2010 by Elizabeth – Comments Off

On Saturday, we ventured out in Somerville to a dog park. Eli goes to day care and plays with other dogs so we thought he would like the exercise.

As we walked down Putnam, you can hear the dogs and Eli was getting all excited. So we go in and Eli starts to sniff around and get familiar. He was very shy at first. He hung out near the fence, watching the others play. (There were a few big dogs we think intimidated Eli.) Eli would sniff a dog if said dog was off on his own near a fence. Then every once in awhile Eli would walk out to the middle of the field. You could tell he wanted to play but was just a bit shy. Eventually after about 10 minutes (during which time he hammed it up to other owners for pets) he got into the mix and started to play. And man, can the dog run. We never realized how fast he could go. So we let him run to his heart’s content with the other dogs for awhile.

The best other dog was “Dexter”. Every few minutes you would hear someone yell “Dexter!” and turn to find the dog humping yet another small dog. It was pretty funny – not just for the obvious but because Dexter was dressed in a monogrammed coat and his owners were mortified.

Blue Bin Revisited

Posted in Boston-area on February 11th, 2010 by Elizabeth – 4 Comments

OK so the saga of the blue bin continues because after being on set out as if ready for garbage, the blue bin was placed in our front yard.  I have a lot of theories and of course all of them are plausible.

1) The neighbor read the blog and then felt guilty.

2) Dave (the mayor of the street who reminds people how to park on Bristol Road and snow blows the sidewalk) or his wife from next door brought it back to us.

3) The neighbor just did the right thing and brought it back.

I am voting for theory number 2.

Blue Bin

So we had a big blue bin for recycling. It wasn’t an official recycling bin but it was big and blue. Last recycling day was very windy. When I came home, there was only one blue bin out in the front. Someone took the other blue bin and the wind probably sent it down the street.

I arrived home tonight and the people across the street have our blue bin out. Do I steal it back or let them have it?
